WEARABLE ART MANDURAH SHOWCASE AUDIO DESCRIPTION

This year we want you to take your seat and immerse your imagination in the Wearable Art Mandurah showcase on Sunday 10 June.

 BOLD!  EVOCATIVE!  BREATHTAKING!

The body is a medium and the stage a canvas for encouraging new ways of viewing the world through revolutionary works of art for the body.

If you love theatrical spectaculars but find it hard to see or hear call the Box Office on 9550 3900 and ask about Sunday’s accessible matinee package, quoting the code words "Audio Description Tickets". If you possess a Companion Card let the box office know at the time of booking your tickets. All bookings must be made at least seven days in advance, and you will receive an email before the date with a meeting time.

The matinee package includes a behind the scenes meet and greet with designers, a chance to get up close with some of the garments, premium showcase seating and access to a live audio description of the event. If you are someone who is thinking of entering the competition in future, the behind the scenes meet and greet is a must!

The performance will be delivered by an audio describer who delivers a verbal description of the visual elements via a personal headset.

A preview of the audio description is available below; ‘This stunning outfit flows like a lion fish in blues, sea green, orange, yellow and dark moss. The outfit is call “Native Spirit”, the model wears a bodice like dress made from raw felted materials, all natural fibres, the dress has straps that tie at the back of the neck. The outfit is dark moss green almost black, with fungus petals of yellow & orange growing out from the dress.’

An Auslan Interpreter will also be available.

Be quick as bookings are essential, with very limited places available.

Audio Description and Tactile Tours is a Disability in the Arts Disadvantages in the Arts (DADAA) initiative and has been utilized in many events in the Perth art scene and is now available in Mandurah.

“A meeting of the disciplines of visual art, craft skills, design principals and fashion, wearable art is an exciting and intriguing art form. The performance groups the works thematically, leading to a beautiful tableau with entertaining scenes featuring music, dance, drama and comedy to frame the presentation of the wearable artworks.” Nerida Dickinson, Theatre Critic 2017 Showcase Review

“An event that is exciting, innovative and spectacular, putting Mandurah on the map!” Hon. David Templeman MLA Minister for Local Government; Heritage; Culture and the Arts and Leader of the House.
