Wearable Art Mandurah 2017

 

 

2017 was an important year for the competition, as it expanded and rebranded to become Wearable Art Mandurah, complete with new judging procedures and whole new look.

Details

In 2017 the competition received record entries with 112 submitted garments in 5 categories: Avant Garde | Oceania | Architectural | Tertiary | Common Threads Artist of the Year Avant Garde | Creative Reuse Award, TAFTA Inc Award | Powertex Award, |Gillian Kaye Peebles Youth Award | Youth Award | First-time Entrant Award 

For the first time, all garments underwent a digital pre-selection process, before select garments were chosen to appear at Judging, where they were presented on a model with professional hair, makeup and photography.

The showcase was separated from the Stretch Festival and took place 10 and 11 July at  Mandurah Performing Arts Centre, with two performances in order to meet increasing audience demand.

An audio description and a tactile tour were introduced for the Sunday matinee showcase.

The exhibition was held from 4 August – 3 September at Contemporary Art Spaces Mandurah and the Alcoa Mandurah Art Gallery.
