Judging

You made it through Pre-Selection! Well done!

Step Three:Your garment now gets to be seen by the judges and audience in-person at our Judging Event

Step Three: Judging

If you make it through Pre-Selection, your garment will next be presented in-person at Judging!

At Judging, you will bring your garment to the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre and present it on a model before the Judges. Your model will be provided by Wearable Art Mandurah, as will a professional hair/makeup team to create a whole look.

If you are unable to attend Judging yourself, you will be able to send your garment ahead of time and our amazing Wardrobe Team will prepare it for you according to your instructions.

Judging will be held on 30 and 31 July 2022.
Garments that are being shipped must arrive by 13 July 2022.

Preparing for Judging

Before your garment is presented at Judging, you will need to consider many factors!

You will need to complete Dressing and Styling Instructions for your garment, which will include information about size and dimensions of your garment, as well as instructions for your model’s hair and makeup. This will help us to ensure that your garment is presented in the best possible light at Judging!

You should also make sure you have everything you could possibly need on the day, including undergarments for your model to wear, a repair kit in case something goes wrong, and any makeup that might not be included in a standard Make-Up Artist’s kit.

Judging

At Judging, your garment will be presented before the Judges in a closed room. They will be presented with your Artist Statement and Methods/Materials list, and will be judging your garment based on the Judging Criteria. The name of the designer will not be presented to the Judges.

Once the Judges have scored your garment, there may be an opportunity for you to enter the Judging Room and speak with them about your piece. This conversation is very informal, and will not have any bearing on your score. We are currently investigating ways in which Interstate/International designers may be able to participate in this element of the program.

More information about Judging
Judging is also where we will be taking professional photographs of each garment for marketing purposes. Designers will have access to between 1 and 3 of these images late in 2022.

Judging also provides an opportunity for creative teams behind the Showcase and Wearable Art Mandurah Exhibition to see your garments in action! This may inform which garments are selected for these, and other activations.

More information about Judging will be released closer to the date, including details about whether this year’s event will incorporate a live audience.

What happens next?

Within a few weeks of Judging we will be in contact to let you know if your garment has been accepted into the Showcase or In the Fold Exhibition!
